It helps to know all your customization options before getting started. There are virtually no limits to what’s possible, so feel free to get creative and make something that’s never been seen before! As you refine your idea, keep the following options in mind:
Size and Shape: Most of the military belt buckles we manufacture are 3” to 3.5” wide. While that range is standard, we can make larger buckles or smaller ones. The smallest size we recommend is 2” wide. When it comes to shapes, anything is possible. Oval is the most popular shape for custom belt buckles, but rectangular designs are also common. If you want a star shape, triangular shape, or some other custom shape, just let us know! However, be sure to consider the practicality and comfort value of the buckles as the size increases!
Attachments: We offer two attachment options: Box frame and hinge and hook. Box frame buckles should look familiar to anyone in the service. The box molded to the back of each belt buckle has a slot for a web belt to slide through and a slider that clamps the belt into place wherever you find it most comfortable. Hook and hinge buckles are designed to work with leather belts. If you’re not designing a military belt, you’re more than likely choosing a hinge and hook attachment.
Plating Options: Gold and silver are the most popular choices for custom military buckles. High polish gold and silver are best for awards and for uniform buckles, while antique gold and silver are best for designs with a more antique or rustic appeal. Besides gold and silver, we also have black nickel, black metal, and colored metal options! Choosing the best plating option for your design is mostly a matter of personal preference, however, if you plan on using the buckles for a uniform or in formal settings, we recommend high polish gold or silver!
2D vs 3D Artwork: We can manufacture just about anything you can imagine! Mascots, logos, and emblems are all popular details. We’ve also incorporated rank insignias, custom badges and banners, and unique character details! While coming up with your design idea, it’s good to start out thinking in terms of 2D or 3D artwork. 2D belt buckles have one raised and one recessed level. 3D belt buckles have sculpted designs with rounded edges and incredible detail. Most of the custom buckles we design have 3D artwork that adds amazing levels of depth to the design!
Engraving Options: One last design option to consider is laser engraving! If you plan on awarding custom belt buckles to your unit or creating a limited run of custom design buckles, adding sequential numbering or callsigns is a fun way to make each one unique.
