Navy Ball Challenge Coins
“Celebrating the Birthday of the World’s Most Powerful Naval Force in History”
Custom Navy Ball Challenge Coins
In just 7 years, the United States Navy will celebrate its 250th birthday. What better way to make history in 2025 than with your fellow sailors and shipmates at the Navy Ball?
Fortunately, the formal gala known as the Navy Ball is held every year in Washington D.C. as well as around the world on October 13th for US Navy commands everywhere. A non-profit, civilian advocacy group known as the Navy League of the United States (NLUS) is often responsible for organizing the Navy ball, that one night a year commemorating the date when Congress passed a resolution in 1775 to establish a navy for our young nation.

So, who can go to the Navy ball?
Those who serve in the Navy receive an invite to bring one guest. The guest can be a date, spouse, or girlfriend/boyfriend. In some cases, local community leaders also receive an invitation to the Ball.
The night of festivities and ceremony begins with a receiving line, where sailors and their guests will walk by and greet the person being honored. If you attend the Navy Ball in Washington D.C., you might see some of the highest-ranking Department of Defense members in the nation like the SecDef, CNO and other Chiefs of Staff of Branches of the Armed Forces.
After this, there is usually an hour of social time where those in attendance can enjoy a cocktail and mingle among fellow sailors and guests. After a while, all attendees will be called to go to their tables. Here they will rise for the national anthem and toast to fallen comrades as well as the President of the United States and the Navy.

The honored guest and keynote speaker sits at the head table, a long, rectangular table usually at the center of the room, where other high ranking and commanding officers will also sit. The honored guest usually gives a small speech before dinner is served, then everyone is free to enjoy a multi-course, catered meal consisting of appetizer, salad, entree, dessert, and a champagne and wine course.
At the end of dinner and conclusion of formal ceremonies, a live band or DJ takes it from there and starts the music as attendees move out onto the dance floor to enjoy- and hopefully not get too hammered or do something they’ll live to regret in front of their command.

The Navy Ball is steeped in history and tradition. One of its biggest draws for civilians wives and husbands of active duty service members is to experience the rites and rituals of US Navy sailors, chiefs and officers. This is also a special time for sailors, because they get to wear their “Mess Dress” or Dinner Dress blues.
For enlisted sailors under E-7, this will be the only time they get to wear some type of formal jacket that contains both their rank and their medals displayed. The dinner dress blue jacket is in stark contrast to the usual Cracker Jack styled pullover with neckerchief.
While many US Navy sailors enjoy the Navy Ball, the event is not mandatory. Each Sailor is allowed one guest, and attendance is usually strongly recommended by the command. If you’re overseas, it might be even more meaningful due to the reality of living in a foreign country and regarding your fellow service members as a family.
The Navy Ball is a great time for Commanding Officers to give young sailors a challenge coin featuring a host of options like 3-D shapes, hand-painted glossy enamel, and a modern or antique finish of your choice!
Navy League of the United States (NLUS) Custom Challenge Coins, Belt Buckles and Lapel Pins
As part of its focus on service personnel and their families, the Navy League of the United States promotes patriotism in sea-service personnel and their families through national and council-level activities. It is a strong advocate for educating both the public and Congress about the importance of our nation's security, well-being, and economic prosperity.
The Navy League provides an opportunity for civilians, veterans, and active duty servicemembers to serve those who also dedicate their lives to serving others. To show our appreciation, they have a robust awards program that honors outstanding achievement in the sea services, given out at a prestigious annual summertime event to its most prominent and active members.
Military Ball Commemorative Challenge Coins
Military Balls are as old as the military itself, likely once referred to as warrior feasts. As popular as they are, it’s no wonder they’re also an important yearly event for ROTC and JROTC organizations as well.
Ultimately, the Navy Ball is a great time for active duty servicemen and women to get together for a bit of recreation and comradery. It’s also a time to reflect on where each US Navy sailor fits into the Navy’s rich, 250-year history.
Finally it’s a great place to put aside your differences and come together in celebration as a reminder of your choice to live a life of honor, courage and commitment in the proud service of your country.

THE EVOLUTION OF CHALLENGE COIN AWARDS
Eight years ago, the Challenge Coin industry had what we call a recipe for designing challenge coins. Round, flat, and empty.
This type of Challenge Coin is a classic, and it still being used nowadays, But people were somewhat asking for a little more spice, uniqueness, and bold designs.
That's when clients started to bring more complex ideas. Instead of refusing to take on the project as most other companies did, we embraced the challenge. We began to increase difficulty and detail to coins; we started experimenting and bringing expectations to whole new level. Some worked; some didn't.
In the end, what was the client's reaction to their finished project?
